Top tech titan Meta has announced the launch of Llama 2, an open-source artificial intelligence (AI) model that exhibits pioneering strides in artificial intelligence research. Engineered specifically for commercial applications, Llama 2, bolstered by its expansive parameter range of seven to seventy billion, is anticipated to outrival competing chat models in the open-source marketplace.
Yann LeCun, Meta's Chief AI Scientist, radiated positivity on Twitter, envisaging a transformative impact on the Large Language Model (LLM) sector. Through leveraging new technologies, including machine learning and deep learning, Llama v2 aims to revolutionise the AI field, embodying the futuristic visions once only found in the realm of science fiction.
Machine learning, a subset of artificial intelligence, is a key technology underpinning Llama v2's proficiency. By training algorithms to learn from data, machine learning bestows the capacity for continuous improvement upon these AI models. This general-purpose approach enables the system to exceed previous limitations and adapt to an ever-changing data landscape.
Deep learning, a further subset of machine learning, has also been instrumental in developing Llama v2. By simulating the workings of the human brain through artificial neural networks, deep learning allows for the processing and interpretation of complex patterns within vast data sets. It's a form of generative AI that fuels the creative potential of Llama v2, offering a reduced likelihood of hallucination—producing outlandish or inappropriate responses.
Another pivotal technology employed is reinforcement learning, an aspect of machine learning that emphasises the role of feedback in refining algorithmic decision-making.
